Because to me "Dale Kincaid" is "mom's friend and coworker" which I confirmed by looking at the finding aid for his collection: bit.ly/3Ip40TM Mom was also a linguistics professor at UBC. Her focus was documenting the Secwepemc language & working with its speakers.On twitter.com

He started teaching at UBC in 1973, mom started in 1976, so he was a slightly-farther-along friend. She always said nice things about him. Seeing he retired in 1998 as a Distinguished Professor makes me wonder what her career would've been like if she'd gotten tenure.Permalink On twitter.com

Would she have been happy? Done something meaningful there? Be remembered in the ways he's remembered? Even when she was dying, she was still corresponding with another friend she made in that dept (more ancient language type) and I heard stories. Kincaid had died by then.Permalink On twitter.com
