        like I'm sorry, but I'm not gonna stay friends with Sharon when she gets furious about the ways I want to follow Christ AND is extremely protective of her gun. I'm gonna unfriend Susan when I see racial slurs on her FB and no I am not close enough w/her to save her.

      I actually DO know what conservatives think because I have lost SO MANY CONNECTIONS with people from my childhood over what conservatives think. Because we disagree at such a fundamental moral level re: the humanity of people who aren't white, conservative Christians.

    Anyway, as @no_reply says, maybe the platitude is backward and it would be a better world if people weren't so complacent about what the people in their lives think. Maybe their beliefs AND ACTIONS are more important than that childhood bond.

      I have plenty of folks in my life with whom I disagree on issues of nuance, priority, even some serious stuff. So I'm not living unchallenged. But. BUT. FOH with suggesting complacency.
