Listening to the most recent episode of "You're Wrong About" re: Go Ask Alice and was thinking about some of the problems with especially bad books in libraries... like, books are complicated, but a guest's mom said "I thought you couldn't print as non-fiction if it wasn't true."

Which I think is a fairly widespread perception and not something shamefully ignorant to think. Most of the time you don't have to consider it, right? We hear occasional big things when a book is exposed as a hoax. But most aren't.

Obviously non-fiction as a whole is wildly complicated, but if you go into a history section and pick up a history of like... Seattle Dockworkers, you expect most of it to be true or at least true recountings of stories.
